What do you eat on Xmas Eve?

November 2, 2019 //  by Geoff

With so much focus on Christmas Day, it may be you slightly overlook Christmas Eve. For some people, Christmas Eve is a busy day where they are on the go and need to get things done. You may not have much time to sit and think about what you are going to eat on Christmas Eve.

Also, if you plan on enjoying a traditional feast on Christmas Day, you don’t want to overeat the day before. A lot of people will try to save room, and calories, on Christmas Eve, making sure they can enjoy themselves thoroughly on the big day.

You don’t want to think too long or hard about the calorie impact of a few cocktail sausages or a handful of sweets. Therefore, you can see why a lot of people don’t put a lot of thought into what they eat on Christmas Eve.

However, this isn’t the case for everyone, and for a lot of households, Xmas Eve is just as important as the big day. For some people, it may even be more critical.

Does your family get together on Christmas Eve?

For families, Xmas Eve often provides the chance to settle down and enjoy some quiet time together. If you’re looking to keep things calm before the excitement of the big day takes over, you’ll have some quality family time arranged. Some light food, snacks or buffet style food may be ideal for your needs. You don’t want people to fill themselves up the day before they eat a lot, but equally, you want to ensure that everyone gets a good meal.

Eating isn’t just about ensuring we have enough energy inside us; food provides us with the chance to sit together with people we care about. If you are going to be apart from your loved ones on the 25th of December, the 24th may be the time when you sit together and have some fun.

Make Christmas Eve a special day by gathering your loved ones

If you are working on the big day, or you can’t be with the people you love, you may decide to have your Christmas meal on the 24th! There are no strict rules regarding Christmas and if you and your loved ones want to start a new tradition, why can’t you? Of course, as Christmas Eve can be hectic, and the shops close early, you will want to ensure you have everything you need in place before it gets too late.

If you believe in the Christian element of Christmas, you may have a special diet you follow on Christmas Eve. Traditionally, fish was prevalent on Christmas Eve as it was a day of abstinence from meat. Many families still gather on the day before Christmas Day and enjoy a fish dinner, setting the tone for what they hope will be a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas Day.

The important thing to remember about Christmas Eve is to make it right for you and your loved ones. No matter what your festive plans are, or how you plan on spending quality time with your loved ones, there is a great deal to create new traditions and spend time with the people you love.

If you plan on having a proper gathering on Xmas Eve, why not make it more special for children? Not many children want to sit through a family meal, but when you take this opportunity to hand out personalised letters from Santa, you’ll help create magical memories for your children.

A personalised letter from Santa Claus is a brilliant way to create excitement, and let your kids know how much you love them. Lapland Mailroom has a range of personalised letters from Santa that will be the perfect accompaniment to your family festive time on Christmas Eve, no matter what you eat!
