Foundational Lessons To Teach Your Kids

June 8, 2020 //  by Geoff

Having kids is a great responsibility, as you are the person who will mold that mind into the adult they become. You may not feel like you’re having that kind of effect on your child as they grow, but you are.

It’s important to take note of what you’re teaching your child. Besides teaching them the moral lessons you hold dear to your heart, there are some simpler concepts they should also carry with them.

Take the time to prep your mind on a few important lessons, and consider what info your kids will need to remain safe and healthy in the future.

Teach them about the danger of strangers

You don’t want to instill a sense of fear in your children, but you do want to arm them with the knowledge they need to stay safe. When you’re not around, you need to know that your kid understands enough to keep themselves safe.

Teach your kids that it’s not safe to get into cars or engage with other adults that they do not know. However, strangers aren’t the only danger. Make sure your kids have enough knowledge to keep them safe.

Teach your child travel safety on their bike

The days of bike riding haven’t ended in recent times, but the rules have shifted a bit. Your kids should always ride in groups, and they should know to stay out of the road. If they do ride their bikes on the roads, they need to know how to properly signal their movements.

Your children should also have the best wearable safety gear as they ride. A strong helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, and even a smartwatch for GPS location services will help to keep your kid safe.

Teach your kids to wash their hands

Cleanliness is important for your children’s health. In the wake of the coronavirus, hand washing is paramount to your children’s safety. Start teaching them to wash their hands regularly while they are still very young, so the habit will be instilled in them throughout their adult life.

Teach your children to brush their teeth

Regularly brushing your teeth can shield you from unnecessary health issues. When you don’t brush your teeth, you place yourself at risk of developing gingivitis or infection in your mouth.

These issues can lead to other, more serious, health issues if left untreated. It’s important that you also instill tooth-brushing into your children’s regular regimen.

Teach your kids what to do in an emergency

Your kids will be safer when they know what to do in a range of emergency situations. For instance, your kids should know exactly what to do and where to go if your home catches on fire. Your kids should know how to dial 911, and they should have the tools they need to peep out a dangerous situation.
