Why You Have To Clean When You End Your Lease

September 12, 2018 //  by Geoff

If you’re unsure of why you’re meant to clean a property from top to bottom, when your lease expires, continue reading to discover a few reasons at the end of lease cleaning in Canberra why you have to clean the property which you leased, before your lease expires.

Why you have to clean when you end your lease:

  1. Your lease forms probably stipulate that you have agreed to leave the building which you leased in the same condition which you found it

It’s well worth taking a look at the lease agreement which you would’ve signed when you first moved into your building as most lease agreements clearly stipulate that tenants must leave the building in the same condition which they found it.

Also beware that if you move out of your building and fail to leave your building in a clean, tidy condition, you may find yourself being billed for professional cleaning services or fined for breaking your contract. So if you don’t want to be stuck paying extra fees, after you move out of your current premises it’s well worth making sure that you thoroughly clean the premises which you vacate.

  1. Your landlords will try to move new tenants into the space which you leased as soon as you’ve moved your belongings out

As soon as you have vacated the premises your landlord will in all likelihood try to move new tenants into their vacant space. As for each day that your landlord’s space remains empty, they will lose out on potential revenue. So most landlord’s will try and fill a vacant space as quickly as possible.

So by thoroughly cleaning the space which you plan on moving out of, at the end of the lease, you’ll make it far easier for new tenants to move into the space which you once occupied. As they won’t have to worry about cleaning the new space which they’re leasing before they move their belongings into the building.

  1. When you moved into the building that you’re about to vacate, you should have moved into a perfectly clean, sanitary environment

Think back to the day when you first moved your belongings into the building which you’re about to relocate. Chances are that you find the area which you leased freshly cleaned and ready to move into. As legally, as a tenant you can expect to be able to move into a completely clean, environment.

  1. If you plan to lease further properties in the future, you’ll want to leave the property which you leased, on good terms with your landlord

If you plan on leasing further properties in the future, prospective landlords may ask you for references from your past landlords to confirm that you’re a respectful, tidy tenant who pays their rent on time.

If you burn your bridges with landlords by leaving the properties which you vacate in a dreadful state, it’s unlikely that your ex-landlords will be willing to provide you with glowing references and you may very well miss out on signing the lease for your ideal property.

Hopefully, after reading the above points you now have a clear idea about why it’s beneficial to clean a property from top to bottom when you end your lease!
