Every generation that has passed has contained animated youths who were politically motivated to make real change. With this being said however young people being involved in politics is not something that we have seen as widespread as we are seeing now. Many political organizations and institutions like Turning Point USA however are counting on more young people than they ever have before, indicating just how many young people are interested in the political landscape. Let’s have a further look into why so many youngsters feel so passionately about politics.
Social Media
What social media has done for the culture is remarkable and its role has been to magnify issues taking place all around the world. Given that young people are the greatest users of social media it is no surprise then that they have been politically inspired by what they are seeing around them, and heavily influenced by political speech which flies around social media channels like Twitter. Social media not only gives people a platform to learn about politics, but also one which they can use to find like minded people and others who share in their political ideals.
Extremism
The extreme left and the extreme right have grown a great deal in recent years and whenever this happens we generally see an uprising of liberal youngsters who want to stop this from becoming the status quo. The rise of the far right for example, with nationalism and fascism on the rise is something that will certainly provoke feelings amongst young people and this is yet another reason why we have so many youths who are interested in politics.
Education
Throughout schools across the USA there are more lessons and teachings of politics than there has ever been before. We have taught politics for many years of course but it was often reserved for those in college education or those who went to the very best schools, these days we are seeing politics taught in just about every school in the land. Education ids about the fact that they can shape the future has inspired them to believe it and that is why we are seeing so many young boys and girls who are staunchly passionate about the political landscape.
Disaffected
In the main I believe that the young men and women of the country feel disaffected, they don’t recognize the government that is in power nor do they feel as their government is properly representing them. We have seen examples of this in the past and whenever the youth do not feel represented, they take action to make sure that their voice and their beliefs are heard.
Young people should be involved in politics, they are often energetic, vociferous and they can bring about change through their thoughts, words and deeds. If this continues then we will start to see real change at the polling booths.
