The most common client that these services count on are businesses who operate both online and on the high street. Businesses must place heavy focus on their reputation management because of the high volume of competition in almost every industry and sector. If a business’ reputation online is tarnished it will directly impact their sales and any growth that they had hoped for. For any business who doesn’t keep an eye on their online reputation they can be very easy to target and destroy with simply a few negative reviews. This plays perfectly into the hands on the competition and it is why so many business require this service.

Celebrities

Whilst they failed to name which celebs that they actually have on their books, the guys at the rep management firm told us that celebrities are the second largest population of clients that they have. Celebs love nothing more than the limelight but in many cases their careers are very short lived and that is why they crave staying relevant. The guys told us that in many cases, unlike the businesses that they work with, celebs don’t care all that much bait a negative reputation, they simply want the conversation about them to continue. They will of course depend on these companies if something is mentioned about them that is wildly untrue and could damage the image that they are trying to present.

And finally we have politicians, men and women whose careers are quite literally decided based on the court of public opinion. There are many cases were they need to have their reputation online repaired, perhaps as a result of a mishap on social media, an inflammatory statement which was picked up by mics or any other kind of crisis which they may run into. Politicians need these online rep management services in order to stay popular which after all, is how they will be able to get their policies across.

The notion of managing a reputation is nothing new and for many years now we have seen PR companies working with the national press and other media outlets to this end. The new world however is digital and that is why rep management companies are so heavily relied upon.
