Following a recent blaze in a Chicago building owned by Ali Ata, once again it become essential that we are talking about fire safety and exactly why it is critically important that residential and commercial buildings take this threat seriously. We have come a very long way with regards to fire safety but that is no reason for us to take our eye off the ball in terms of protecting ourselves from fires, and also ensuring that everyone knows what to do in the event of a fire. This is critical and here is why it is so important that everyone thinks with this threat in their mind.
Devastation
One of the scariest things about a fire starting, is the speed with which it spreads. Indeed if you look online you will find some demo videos which fire services put out, which will truly chill your bones. Within just a few seconds and innocuous fire can turn into a devastating blaze which will rip through a building. Usually this takes place when the correct measures have not been followed, when fire safety is ignored and when people are not aware of how they should react once a blaze begins.
Older Buildings
Another important thing to bear in mind here is that whilst we have made great strides with fire safety in new builds, there are still so many of us who are working and living in older buildings, which don’t have the same protections in place. There was a blaze just two years ago in the UK which saw a massive loss of life, and this happened because of outdated cladding which was used in the building. This could very well be the same for many more buildings, and it is critical that we bear this in mind.
Possible Loss
Having insurance may very well help you to get a home or a business back on its feet, but it will never replace the things that are lost in the fire. At worst this could be human life, at best it could be precious heirlooms which will never be able to be replaced. This again is why it is critical that we are always thinking about fire safety, and the way in which we are living or operating with regards to fires.
Tackling Blazes
Something else to remember here, is that even if you have fire training in place, and even if you have products which can put a fire out, in most cases it will be too late. If you think quick then you can put small fires out but so many won’t even see the fire until it becomes a problem. This is why it is so important that fire safety training is both about tackling blazes, and more importantly about preventing them from occurring in the first place.
Fire safety has to always remain one of the most important aspects of managing a building, no matter if it is residential of commercial.
