5 Tips For Preventing Tendonitis

May 20, 2019 //  by Geoff

What exactly is tendonitis you ask? Tendonitis occurs when the tendons become inflamed, making even simple motions difficult to accomplish. Tendonitis can be painful and frustrating. Even bending your arm can be a chore when you’ve developed the condition.

Tendons are important because they make it possible for the body to jump, bend, and even grab things. Therefore not being able to rely on your tendons and be detrimental to your daily life as well as profession.

It’s in your best interest to avoid developing tendonitis at all costs. Here are some of the best ways to steer clear of this pesky condition.

Practice Good Habits At Work

The workplace is somewhere that you spend a large portion of your week. Therefore it is essential to practice healthy habits in the office. That means using an ergonomic keyboard, taking frequent breaks, I’m practicing proper posture.

If you ever start to feel the onset of tendonitis, then you should begin gently stretching throughout the day. Be sure to take breaks in between work at your computer to allow your tendons time to rest

Always Warm Up Before Physical Activity

Always warm up before you begin any kind of physical activity. In order for your joints to function at their best, they should be gently stretched and prepped for movement.

Your doctor may be able to recommend stretching exercises that you can do at the beginning of each day. Even taking as little as 10 minutes a day can have a significant impact on reducing your chances of tendonitis.

Ease Into Intensity

Rather than driving straight into high intensity, always gradually build your energy. Slowly start to increase the force of your movements, avoiding overloading your joints with too intense of a movement.

Ideally, you should limit the number of repetitions when you are working out. Tendonitis is caused by repetitive movements of the same body part over and over. Therefore, trying to focus on slow and steady movements rather than rushing into anything.

Change Up Your Routines

Whether sitting at your desk or working out at the gym, your body will appreciate mixing things up from time to time. Try out different positions and alternate activities. The idea is to avoid repetitive actions which lead to tendonitis.

By changing things up from time to time, your tendons will be less likely to become inflamed and painful.

Listen To Your Body

One of the best ways to guard against injuries is to pay attention to your body. If you notice any pain or discomfort when performing a particular motion, discontinue the movement immediately.

Always a stop in the presence of pain. Your body is telling you something if a certain movement hurts.
