5 Tips For Encouraging Safety Culture in Your Place of Business

October 12, 2021 //  by Geoff

Regardless of what industry you’re in or what the size of your company is, keeping your workers safe should be your number one priority. A considerable amount of injuries happen each year as a result of poor safety programs most employee injuries can be avoided by simply taking the right precaution measures. By creating an atmosphere of safety culture in your workplace, you can reduce injuries and keep your workers much safer. Take a look at some of the most practical ways to build a robust safety program where you work.

Plan Ahead

Nine one of the best ways to keep everyone safe is by planning ahead. Have a plan constructed for every single project that you take on for how you plan on keeping everyone safe. Anticipate any safety hazards, and determine what needs to be done to avoid anyone getting hurt. So, before you take on any project that may have risks involved, it is as simple as planning ahead to discuss anticipated risks.

Train Employees Properly

One of the most reliable ways to keep everyone on board with safety is by keeping all your employees trained. All new employees that you hire should be given a rundown of the proper safety measures in your company, and should never be allowed to operate any equipment without a proper training session beforehand. It’s important to remember that beyond initial training, ongoing training is equally as important. Safety measures should regularly be reviewed to ensure that everyone is well versed on how to stay safe.

Post Signs

One of the most practical ways to ensure that everyone is aware of safety protocol is by posting signs throughout your workplace. A visual reminder of how to say safe is often the most effective. Make sure that signs are posted in any risky areas where injuries could occur. That way, if anyone does get hurt, it’s certainly not for lack of information. If the rules are posted clearly in front of a dangerous area, then it’s your employees’ responsibility to read it.

Conduct Safety Checks

It’s critical that you regularly check all equipment to ensure that it’s up to safety standards. One of the biggest causes for workplace injuries is equipment that wasn’t properly inspected. Have a checklist for everything you should make sure is working order, and don’t skip steps. Rushing through a safety inspection could literally be a matter of life and death.

Communicate

One of your top priorities as a company should be communicating about safety. Make sure that everyone is on the same page and understands any new rules and regulations put into place. Everything should be communicated verbally as well as in a company email. If any of your workers have a safety concern, they should be able to feel comfortable enough to communicate their concerns with the rest of the team. By keeping an open-door policy, and being receptive to feedback, your safety culture will never stop improving.
