Since many people have begun working from home in an effort to stop the spread of the coronavirus, not everyone who’s now working from home as the space or ability to create their own home office.
For many, creating a space to work in during the day means finding any quiet corner in their home where they can get some work done without too many distractions. In some homes, this can best be accomplished in a bedroom. But just because you can’t have a space set apart as your designated office doesn’t mean that you can’t take a few feet within your bedroom to devote to your working hours.
So to help make this easier for you, here are three tips for creating a home office space in your bedroom.
Make Use Of Your Closet Space
If you have a closet in your bedroom and can afford to move your clothes to a different location for the time being, using up your closet space as office space could be a great alternative for you.
According to Amanda Lauren, a contributor to Forbes.com, even if you have a small or shallow closet, you may be able to find a small desk that will fit partially inside of it in order to create a sectioned off space that you can reserve for doing your work from home. This will allow you to have an area that’s away from the rest of your room so that you can have both physical and mental separation from where you’re sleeping and where you’re working.
Put Away The Clutter
For most people, they find that they’re much more productive and better able to focus when they don’t have clutter all around them. In essence, the more clutter you have around you physically, the more clutter you have in your mind.
To combat this, Marie Proeller Hueston, a contributor to BobVila.com, recommends that you try to keep your room as free from clutter as you can. Unless you’re actively using something or choose to have something around for decor, you should try to put everything in your room away or in an organized location so that it doesn’t become a distraction to you as you work in your room.
Stay Off Your Bed
Even if you’re not able to have an actual desk in your bedroom or carve out additional space to use while working, you should try to stay off your bed during your working hours. While it can be a comfortable seat, it can make you too comfortable and blur the lines between work and sleep, which can make both areas of your life suffer. While Rachel of ThisIsOurBliss and Apartments.com shares that you should be making your bed each day, you should really try to stay off it while you work.
If you’re needing to work from home and are doing so in your bedroom, consider using the tips mentioned above to help you make the best of this situation.
