Online reviews should be a brilliant insight for customers who are looking to buy a particular product or service. These reviews, when done well, can offer some information based on first hand experience of using the product, which gives a far clearer picture of what one can expect. Unfortunately however these reviews are often poor or manipulated by the business to make the product look more desirable, it is for this reason that a great site like Top Consumer Reviews exists, to give us a clearer idea into which reviews to believe. Whilst it may be tough to spot a fake review, there is a lot which we can do to make sure that we can weed out the bad reviews, and here is what they look like.
Single Minded
Very often you will find reviews which have been written about a product after the customer has had a bad experience with the service or with the store that they bought it from. Whilst there is no taking away from the fact that the customer had a bad experience which should certainly be mentioned, poor customer service doesn’t sully the quality of the product. If this person splits their review in half, discussing both the service and then the product, then this is fine, many however will slate the product based on the service, which doesn’t help.
Lack of Description
When it comes to good reviews, you can get away more with brief comments that describe how positive the experience was, when a bad review is left however you need a little more as to what the person didn’t like. To simply say ‘bad product’ for example is not helpful and doesn’t contribute whatsoever to the review system. There is nothing wrong with being brief of course but it is possible to do so without being vague. A review should always pack in as much information as possible, otherwise they may as well just leave stars.
Review Only
If you are going to take the time to leave a ranking for the product such as 3 stars or whatever, then not leaving any information at all seems rather nonsensical. At the very least you could add a couple of comments about your experience with the product to provide some context.
No Use
Believe it or not you sometimes see reviews which start off with something like ‘I haven’t used this product but…’ before they go on to rant about the company or a previous experience which they have had regarding this manufacturer. This of course doesn’t help anyone at all and is a wasted review. Often it looks as though the person is simply trying to vent their frustrations and has decided on using the review site to do so, which of course is not the place.
Keep an eye out for these bad reviews and discount them as soon as you see them, they will offer no value to you at all when deciding whether to buy a certain product.
