DSL stands for digital subscriber line, a group of related technologies involved in digital data transmission. While DSL has mainly been used for transmission over telephone network wires, there is a growing trend for satellite-based Internet transmission services. While satellite DSL (Satellite DSL) has many advantages over traditional telephony networks, there are also some limitations and security dangers associated with this kind of transmission technology. Satellite DSL can go beyond the reach of a traditional landlines and mobile networks, as transmission is not based on the proximity of users to specific localized transmission centers.

While each of these systems has unique challenges in terms of data security, a combination of hardware and software components are available to make each method totally secure. While many people are still suspect of any kind of data technology that does not use physical telephony wires, there is no reason to believe that satellite DSL and other wireless services can not be just as secure as traditional methods.
